The image airport #1 from the project In Transit is included in the Poster Project presented by Artists Unite in cooperation with MTA New York City Transit.
The Artists Unite-MTA Poster Project emerged from an eight-year collective effort to bring art into Northern Manhattan’s subway elevators. The original display of pictures and posters in the elevators at the 181st (184 Street Exit) and 190th Street A-Train stations played a vital role in bringing our neighborhood together. When they were removed in 2001, it was a profound loss to the community. Residents of Washington Heights immediately collected more than 3,000 signatures to bring the pictures back.
This collaborative decades-long project acknowledges the uniqueness of the Northern Manhattan community and fulfills Artists Unite mission to bring art to the public in creative venues.
The piece was on view in the northern elevator at the 190th Street A-Train subway station from September 2013 through April 2015.
